Iao Valley
Just a short drive from the resort areas,Iao Valley represents a startling change of environment in a small distance. Located in an eroded crater from Maui’s first major volcano, Iao Valley features the spire-like Iao needle, a vertical basaltic column. Iao is the 2nd wettest place on earth averaging 300 inches of rain per year. Historically, it was the scene of Maui’s bloodiest battle which led to the unification of the Hawaiian Islands.
