Prince George - Cache Creek: Cariboo Highway #97
This section is available in English and Deutsch.
Driving time: approximately 5 hours plus stops.
What a great highway and what a great drive. This was a gold rush route in the early days and we will see evidence of that along the way. Its a long day of driving but you can do it in a single day and still take in some of the attractions and towns. If you have the time, its worth breaking the drive into 2 by staying in Williams Lake and spending more time exploring.
In Cariboo country we will have access to several provincial parks and spectacular Bowron Lake, though it is an 80km each way side trip. We will view massive coastal mountain peaks and dry, arid prairie lands complete with ranches, cowboys and tumbleweeds on this highway. We will be following the route of the Fraser River which flows southbound.
You can't help but notice that several of the towns and communities are named by there distance north from Lillooet back when this was the Cariboo Wagon Road. Nowadays many people visit this region to have a true "ranching" experience. Quesnel and 100 Mile House are also good sized towns with excellent facilities along the way.
