Driving time: All day with stops
The Icefields Parkway is the most popular drive in the Canadian Rockies for people who rent GyPSy Guide.
Repeatedly voted "the world’s most spectacular mountain drive". Set aside the whole day to drive this magnificent road. Each corner along the Icefields Parkway brings even more spectacular mountain scenery. Glaciers line the roadside, see turquoise colored lakes and thundering waterfalls. You can stop on the way to take a tour and actually walk on a glacier. You absolutely cannot miss this drive if you are in the Rockies. Drive from Banff or Lake Louise to the Icefields and return in one full day or continue all the way to Jasper and stay overnight.
From Jasper, the Columbia Icefields are 1 hour south. You can return or continue to Lake Louise and Banff.
The chances of seeing wildlife, including grizzly bears and elk, are very good on the Icefields Parkway drive. To improve your chances make an early start - animals are more active in the morning and evening. Always practice safe wildlife viewing and never feed the animals.
