Calgary - Banff: Prairies to the Rocky Mountains
This tour is available in
Kananaskis is in English only.
Driving time: approximately 1 3/4 hours from the airport – traffic dependent.
On this drive we experience the extremes of western Canadian geography - the flatness of the prairies contrasted the huge vertical rises of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. This is a straight through route on fast, twinned highway. There are a couple of worthwhile viewpoints if traveling from Calgary to the mountains. Canmore is the only town along the way, sitting right on the edge of the National Park boundary.
GyPSy Guide will provide directions and commentary all the way to and from Calgary International Airport.
If you have time it is worth exploring Kananaskis Country - a Provincial Park between Calgary and Banff, featuring dramatic peaks, golf, many biking and hiking trails and a quaint village. Opportunities to see wildlife in Kananaskis are very good. Allow 2 hours minimum for a side trip from Highway 1.
