Banff - Lake Louise: Touring Banff National Park

Once you get outside of the townsite area, Banff National Park continues to become even more spectacular. Deep canyons carved by raging water, glaciers and incredible lakes that just burst with color dominate the drive. Call by the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise or one of the front country lodges for a tasty lunch or dinner. And best of all, keep a close lookout for wildlife.
Drive the faster Highway 1 in one direction, then take the slower and more scenic Bow Valley Parkway, route 1A, to return.
You can explore Banff to Lake Louise in a leisurely day. If you want to go further in a single day, include the drive to the the Columbia Icefields on the famous Icefields Parkway on the same day. That's a long but manageable day. Or if you want to save a whole day for the Icefields Parkway, then consider driving Banff to Lake Louise and then explore Yoho National Park before return to Banff - that's a great day of touring too.
